September 22nd, 2011 - Andy is telling a story at The Soundtrack Series at le Poisson Rouge, a storytelling show based around formative pieces of music. 8pm. September 20th, 2011 - Andy will guest-co-host the amazing storytelling series Stripped Stories for a special event benefiting Planned Parenthood at Babeland Toys at 7:30pm. [Warning: The stories might be about sex. They will. they will be about sex.] September 15th, 2011 - Andy will be reading a few of his humor essays at Steamboat, a terrific humor series hosted by Bob Powers at Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn. 7:30pm. September 14th, 2011 - Real Characters Storytelling has an amazing lineup of storytellers and writers yet again. Come out to McNally Jackson Books in SoHo at 7pm. This is important. More info here. September 7th, 2011 - Andy is telling a story at Ask Me Stories at the Axis Theater off of Christopher Street. Hosted by Cammi Climaco and David Crabb. September 1st, 2011 - Andy will perform at Failing Our Twenties at the Peoples Improv Theater at 8pm. August 16th, 2011 - Andy will be telling a story at Stoop to Nuts at Cornelia Street Cafe, a great storytelling and music show run by Tommy Prior. August 15th, 2011 - Following the huge success of the first show at it's new venue, Real Characters Storytelling continues the trend at McNally Jackson Books in SoHo at 7pm sharp. Get there early for food. April 14th, 2011 - Andy will be telling a story at Stripped Stories at the UCB Theater in NYC. Reserve tickets early, as it sells out quickly March 15th, 2011 - Real Characters, celebrated its one-year anniversary in front of a packed house at the Belleville Lounge. February 24th, 2011 - Andy's blog celebrated its one-year anniversary. That's one full year of writing something comedic--an essay, a video, a list, a comic--every day. February 15th, 2011 - Real Characters, a collection of New York's best storytellers and comedy writers, has another terrific line-up at the Belleville Lounge at 7:30pm. Hosted by Andy. February 14th, 2011 - Andy will be presenting a story at Show & Tell, a reading series hosted by Colleen Kane at Union Hall in Brooklyn. The night's theme is "love" of course. January 25th, 2011 - Andy will again host his show Real Characters, where he brings together New York's best storytellers and character performers at the Belleville Lounge at 7:30pm. It's gonna be great. As always. January 24th, 2011 - Andy is telling a story at the Moth GrandSLAM at the Highline Ballroom as one of the winners of the previous ten Moth StorySLAMS. Three storytellers tell true stories, one lies, and the audience votes. December 14th, 2010 - Real Characters Storytelling at the Belleville Lounge has a terrific group of storytellers and comedians all set to perform. Join us there at 7:30pm. November 16th, 2010 - Real Characters Storytelling has a new home! Come out to see it at the Belleville Lounge on November 16th. The inaugural line-up is pretty spectacular. November 6th, 2010 - Andy will perform at Andy Chistie's The Liar Show at Cornelia Street Cafe. Three storytellers tell true stories, one lies, and the audience votes. November 3rd, 2010 - Andy will tell a story at You Went to College for That? at Union Hall in Brooklyn at 7:30pm October 14th, 2010 - Andy won this week's Moth storySLAM. The theme was "focus" and Andy talked about his first job at a zoo, where he failed to do the right thing. October 10th, 2010 - This month's MAD Magazine features an ad parody written by Andy. Look for it opposite the fold-in. October 8th, 2010 - Andy participated in a qualifying round of Layer Tennis, the live graphic design competition. (It's not mentioned very often, but Andy is a graphic designer during the day.) September 2nd, 2010 - Real Characters Storytelling ending up being the final show at Ochi's Lounge, which was shuttered by new investors. Stay tuned for a new venue for the show. August 16th, 2010 - Andy will be performing at Told, a terrific storytelling show hosted by Seth Lind and produced by Heidi Grumelot. It's at Under St. Marks Place at 7pm. July 1st, 2010 - Real Characters, Andy's storytelling show at Ochi's Lounge under Comix Comedy Club, is now a monthly show. Come check out an amazing line-up of storytellers and stand-ups every first Thursday at 7:30pm. Hosted by Andy Ross. June 30th, 2010 - Andy contributed again to Comedy Central's Indecision Forever blog with a softball t-shirt in honor of Elena kagan's Senate confirmation hearings. You can download a PDF to make your own iron-on here. June 28th, 2010 - At the Moth StorySLAM at the Bitter End, Andy told a story involving a Junior High crush and the worst talent show of all time. June 17th, 2010 - Andy performed at the Moth StorySLAMat the Housing Works bookstore in SoHo. He told a story about family, loss, and Trivial Pursuit. May 25th, 2010 - Comedy Central commissioned Andy to make some editorial cartoons for its Indecission Forever blog. He made them these Postcards from the News. May 11th, 2010 - The next "Real Characters" storytelling show at Ochi's Lounge at 7:30pm. Storytellers and stand-ups present their colorful charcaters or selves with Andy hosting. Mar. 31st, 2010 - Andy is putting up a storytelling/character monologue show called Mar. 12, 2010 - The Apiary, a terrific blog about comedy in New York and Chicago, has started carrying Andy's comic Low Key every Friday. Feb. 24, 2010 - Andy started a daily blog called "Wait For It..." which you can find here. It's mostly nonsense and puns, but there will be little gems of perfection sprinkled in as well. Feb. 8, 2010 - The re-design of the website is in place. There's still more content to be added, but the new format makes it much easier to update. So, expect more up-to-date updates to be updated. Yup. Feb. 1, 2010 - The Moth StorySLAM was tonight at Southpaw in Brooklyn. The night's theme was "Winter," and Andy told a story about cross-country skiing in gym class in rural Wisconsin. Also, there were pigs. In the story, not at Southpaw. Jan. 26, 2010 - At Stories at the Creek tonight Andy will describe riding atop the t-bar of his father's Nissan Pulsar at age six. The night's theme is "Bad Habits," and he has had a few. Dec. 19, 2009 - Andy directs Jared Logan and Dan St. Germain's sketch show, They Hated Each Other, at The Creek in Long Island City. The show reenacts great feuds throughout history, and it is off-puttingly funny. Dec. 8, 2009 - The last Moth StorySLAM held at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe was tonight. Andy told a story about childhood adventures with his father and the day the ground fell out from under them. Nov. 10, 2009 - Tonight's Moth StorySLAM at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe had the theme "Ambition." Andy talked about being passive aggressive, being at war, and being systematically taken down by a vegan co-worker. Oct. 25, 2009 - Melancomedy comes to the venerable Annoyance Theatre in Chicago for a special one night only performance. Sandy Marshall of Schadenfreude directs. Tickets available here.
Aug. 9, 2009 - Andy will appear in a video (and has edited another) for Dave Croatto and Jesse Caesar's show, Toast of Manhattan, at the Parkside Lounge on East Houston tonight. Aug. 3, 2009 - County Fair, hosted by Ross Hyzer and Jared Logan, tonight features Andy Ross along with Mike Lawrence, Ted Alexandro, and Kristen Schaal. If that's not a great lineup, then what is? July 29, 2009 - At The Rejection Show's "I Lost on a Game Show" tonight, Andy will show video and talk about his two days losing on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? It should be excruciating. July 27, 2009 - The Bitter End hosted the Moth StorySLAM with theme "Heat." Andy talked about cheesemaking byproducts, the legal system, and the lasting legacy of a good man. July 6, 2009 - The Moth StorySLAM was at Southpaw in Brooklyn with theme "Busted." Andy laid out the mystery of a prank caller with a foul mouth and a landlord with an Irish brogue. June 4-25, 2009 - Melancomedy, sad/funny stories that find humor in a minor key, runs Thursday nights at The Peoples Improv Theater at 8pm. Get $8 advance tickets here.
May 21, 2009 - The Moth StorySLAM at Housing Works in SoHo had the theme "Space" tonight. Andy told a cliffhanger about spending two months painting murals in a storage unit with an angry squatter roaming the halls. April 15, 2009 - The Rejection Show at Union Hall has Andy and Jared Logan reminiscing about shooting a sitcom pilot in sub-zero temperature when the heating pipes busted. April 6, 2009 - The Moth StorySLAM was at Southpaw in Brooklyn, and the night's theme was "Scandals." Andy talked about the night his student newspaper discovered a black student had been photoshopped onto the cover of the UW admissions packet. But, could they stay ahead of the scoop? July 6, 2009 - Andy performed at his first Moth StorySLAM at the Bitter End. The theme was "Anxiety," and Andy recounted his fourteen hours spent waiting in a gameshow greenroom. Feb. 24, 2009 - Melancomedy previews tonight at 7pm the PIT Theater at 154 West 29th Street in New York. Tickets are $5 at the door. |
